The Great Smoky Mountains National
Park (GSMNP) the most
popular in
the Park system, gets 10 million visitors
yearly. With four
distinct seasons and
520,000 acres of play space (including
over 800 miles of well-maintained hiking
trails, 1,500 types of plants and trees, plus 10 campgrounds,
it should be clear why the GSMNP is so
loved. There are 5 entrances to the Great
Smoky Mountains National Park, including
one in Townsend, Tennessee. The national
park has no lodging other than LeConte
Lodge, campgrounds and backcountry camp
sites. Adjacent towns like Townsend TN
accommodate travelers with hotels and
Tennessee cabin rentals. The Park offers
trout fishing, hiking, auto touring,
and preserved and restored pioneer settlements.
